How to use HubSpot Workflows to trigger a Stripe failed payment (โ€dunningโ€) Email Sequence:

Step 1: Create a new HubSpot Workflow from scratch based on the CLS Subscription objectโ€™s field Subscription Status changing to Past Due:

Step 2: Create email templates for your sequence, referencing ClearSync Subscription fields as personalization tokens:

Step 3: Add the failed payment nurture Emails to your Workflow with fixed-time Delay steps in between.
  • Note: ClearSync always associates the Stripe Billing Email to the CLS Subscription record as a Contact, so they will automatically be the recipient:

Step 4: In the Workflow Trigger Settings:
  • Check โ€œRe-enrollโ€ so that if the subscription goes into a past due state again in the future, itโ€™s eligible to re-enter the sequence
  • Edit Criteria for Unenrollment
    • Add Subscription Status is any of Canceled or Active โ€” that way, as soon as the past due status is resolved, they will exit the campaign. You might also choose to only unenroll Contacts from the sequence if the Subscription Status is Active, so that you keep trying to engage the customer via the sequence even if the subscription technically moves to canceled:
